HMRC scraps Online End of Year Expenses and Benefits Service

Taxpayers and their agents will no longer be able to use HMRC’s Online End of Year Expenses and Benefits Service to submit P11D and P11D(b) returns for the 2021 to 2022 tax year.

Commenting on the development, HMRC said: “Instead, we advise you to use HMRC’s PAYE Online service. This service will allow submissions for up to 500 employees. You will use the same government gateway details to access this service.”

Elaborating, the tax office told employers and their accountants: “Unlike the Online End of year expenses and benefits service, you do not need to download the latest version of Adobe Reader or use a certain web browser to access it. The PAYE Online Service has the bonus of allowing you to submit your P46(Car) online, too.

“The PAYE Online Service should be straightforward to use. However if you do encounter any problems, please use the help function on the PAYE online service or contact the Online Services Helpdesk.”

Accountants also have the option of using HMRC ‘recognised’ software and HMRC has compiled an extensive list of free and paid-for software it will accept, which is available on the government website.

The tax office has also advised taxpayers and their agents looking to utilise this software to check its functionality to make sure it meets their specific business requirements.
